the jewel of the upper murray Zone : Big Rivers | Region: Tumbarumba | Climate : Cool Established in the 1850's following the discovery of rich gold deposits, this lively town is situated in the foothills of our famous Snowy Mountains. The later 1800's saw the arrival of farming families and even today the township is sustained by and is central to an area where timber, apples, tobacco, sheep and cattle are profitable enterprises. A stamping ground of famous bushranger "Mad Dog" Morgan in the 1860's adds infamy and colour to the region in true Australian tradition. Wine production is relatively new to Tumbarumba beginning 1983 but since then the region has become synonymous for the production of some of Australia's finest cool climate wines. Fine wines, a rich and colorful history amid most beautiful scenery stamps Tumbarumba as a must visit destination. |
