![]() A group of Sydney business men, all wine enthusiasts, visited tumbarumb around 15 years ago. After sampling the local wines they decided that they would set themselves a challenge - to grow grapes and make wine equal to the best cool climate wines on the market. As Tumbarumba has very similar growing conditions to the famous Burgundy region in France they knew their task was achievable and so Tumbarumba Wine Estates was born.Over three years 62,000 vines were planted including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Pinot Noir. The varieties are all well suited to cool climates as the length of ripening allows subtle and delicate flavours to develop more fully. Tumbarumba Wine Estates sends its grapes to specialists in the particular type of wine being produced, an approach that is gaining more popularity as time progresses. However a wine maker is only as good as the grapes he has to work with and this is where Tumbarumba Wine Estate excels - excellent fruit equals excellent wine. All wine from this vineyard is marketed under the Mannus label. The name originates from Mannus Plains where the vineyard is found and the creek that runs through it - Mannus Creek. |
