Lewison Wines as from its inception in 1997 has always adopted a low chemical usage profile and adheres to the Organic Herb Growers Associations of Australia code of conduct.
In November 2002, the vineyard received its "in conversion" certificate under the auspices of the Organic Herb Growers Association of Australia. The Vineyard will become a grade 'A' fully certified organic Vineyard in November 2004, which will entitle us to produce the organic Wines.
Our EM concentrate means effective micro-organisms are a combination of 100 different aerobic, anaerobic and fungi micro-organisms and is applied as a spray to the foliage and to the soil, in lieu of fertilizer. Another component we are gradually introducing is a substitute for the pesticides to reduce incidences of bugs and mildews, etc. We have completely replaced synthetic chemicals with natural substances.
We have introduced a composting regime to provide natural nutrients as fertilizer to enhance the grape flavours and grape colour. The farm also applies the concept of restricted deficit irrigation, thus reducing the volume of fruit to enhance quality. EM will produce for us a higher baume, better flavour and better skin colours.
Lewison Wines received Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the Swan Hill and Eltham Wines Shows and is currently marketing a range of red wines made by Tucks Ridge, Mornington.
