This
restaurant certainly comes out of the left field. We had heard quite
a few things before we went but nothing could really prepare us for the
experience known as the Mallee Fowl Restaurant. The
place was literally crammed with memorabilia - from floor to ceiling,
in fact it took me a while to look above and notice everything that was
up there (I didn't see it but I'm assuming that the kitchen sink was
there). But this only added to the enjoyment of the night.
The meals were without a doubt excellent (infact I don't
think I would even bother to write anything about any place if they weren't).
It's standards were quite surprising. To
add a different slant to the cooking, you can actually watch that slab
of meat being cooked.There
was also a decent wine cellar with a fairly good selection of local wines
(that's what we like to see).
We
were invited to this venue by some wonderful people whom we met when
we went on a recent tour of the Riverland to introduce
ourselves and meet face to face with some of the wineries of the region.
Tony and Deb from Torambre
Wines and Omer and Cindy from Omersown
Wines. We also enjoyed the night with a rowdy lot on a table opposite
(none of whom can be named for security reasons).
This place comes with a resounding four sides of beef out
of five for it's decor, food and atmosphere.
They are located 10 kilometres from Berri and for bookings
their phone number is (08) 5882 2096. They are certainly worth a visit.
