Angas Plains Wines is a company established by co-directors Phillip and Judy Cross, The company's aim is to produce wines from grapes grown on the property and intends to develop a select niche market for Angas Plains Estate's wines.Phillip grew up on a mixed farm in the Langehorne Creek / Belvidere district and like many other young people went off to the city to study at University. However, he could never really leave the land he loved so he returned to buy his home in the district and to develop his beloved Angas Plains Estate vineyard on the banks of the Angas River in a region previously known as Angas Plains. The vineyard property is 100 acres and currently has 25 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 34 acres of Shiraz and 2 acres of Chardonnay, with 33 acres of land available for new plantings. Phillip together with his wife Judy work the vineyard using organic practices wherever viable. They are always investigating methods and practices which will improve the fruit quality, soil structure and protect the environment for future generations. All fruit grown on the property has been sold to a contracted winery until 2002 when Angas Plains Wines had its first crush of it's own. |
